Laura D. Pusey is the Founder of FACFO - The Federation of African & Caribbean Funeral Operatives - established in 2020 to elevate standards, representation, and cultural competency within the funeral sector.
A qualified Funeral Director, Funeral Arranger, Funeral Celebrant, and End of Life Guide, Laura brings extensive professional experience across the full continuum of dying, death, and bereavement care. Her work is grounded in both technical expertise and cultural insight, ensuring families receive dignified, informed, and respectful support at one of life‘s most vulnerable moments.
Laura is also a non conventional Clinical Hypnotherapist specialising in cultural grief awareness and generational trauma, with particular focus on the impact of historical, bloodline, and systemic experiences on bereavement within Black and Global Majority communities. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges practical funeral care with psychological and emotional support.
Through her training and accreditation arm, D.I.P.ism, Laura develops structured pathways in cultural competency, professional standards, and end-of-life education. Her work includes the design of certification frameworks that support funeral professionals in delivering culturally informed care — reducing disparities and improving family experiences across the sector. She is the author of Tapestries of Grief and My Life‘s Tapestry, reflective works exploring grief, identity, and intergenerational healing.
Laura‘s vision extends beyond individual practice. In addition to FACFO and D.I.P.ism, she is establishing a UK-based Community Interest Company focused on improving access to grief and loss support services, particularly within underserved communities. Her work is guided by a commitment to dignity, equity, cultural integrity, and professional excellence. Through advocacy, education, and sector engagement, Laura continues to position culturally competent end-of-life care as an essential standard within modern funeral practice.
